 Philip Mellows - Clear Entertainment
Philip Jonathon Mellows was born in Cheltenham, England, youngest son of seven, to Dr. Frank Mellows and Margaret Jean Mellows. Mellows, a graduate of the Creative Advertising Broadcast program at Seneca College, wasted no time getting his start. By the age of 24, Mellows was producing for such accomplished directors as Steve Surjik of Wayne’s World 2, Weapons of Mass Distraction, and Canadian Music Video Pioneer, Robert Quartley. At 29, Mellows launched The Players Film Company. From 1990, Mellows took the sales from $400,000 to $15,000,000 in 2003. As a true entrepreneur, Mellows has launched a number of other accomplished companies in the industry. Relish, one of Canada’s premier commercial editing companies, 49th Parallel Films, which produced Nothing, helmed by Director Vincenzo Natali, Ginger Snaps 2 and Ginger Snaps 3. Mellows has been honored with such awards as a Juno for Sarah McClachlan’s “Into the Fire”, a number of Gold Lions from the Cann Film Festival, a few Clio Awards, just to name a few.
Today, Mellows is fully dedicated to the development and production of world-class feature films and television. In 2007, Mellows and his producing partners created The Don Cherry Story, a mini series set to air on CBC in late 2008. Most recently, Mellows joined forces with prominent Canadian businessman, Dom Serafino, and his partner, Wayne Thompson, at Clear Entertainment and produced Saving God starring Ving Rhames, Dean McDermott, and Dwain Murphy. Mellows’ focus was to create a world-class team of filmmakers and to put the money on the screen. Mellows has been working with and building directors and the like for many years. Saving God was no exception. Mellows brought in first time feature film director Duane Crichton. Mellows was responsible for launching Crichton’s career as a director four years earlier at his commercial production house. Crichton’s performance was exceptional. |
